There is certainly no shortage of activities available on Fitzroy Island.  Whether you would like to explore, discover, relax or indulge – we have options for everyone, including the kids!

School Holiday Activities

During the School Holidays we offer extended kids club and family friendly activities including:

  • Themed parties
  • Karaoke
  • Bingo, trivia, pool comps & more!

Upon arrival please find the School Holiday activity timetable on the blackboard in reception.

Junior Marine Biologist Program

Get the kids out and about with our fun and educational Junior Marine Biologist program! Spend the morning with our resident Marine Biologist and learn about our beautiful oceans and marine life through a series of fun ‘hands on’ activities.

Activities include beachcombing, fish feeding, water quality testing & learning about the anatomy of marine animals. The program includes a packed lunch to takeaway and presentation of certificates!

Available for both Day Trip & Resort guests. Held every Sunday.

Kids Activities 

Keep the kids busy and enjoy some time out for yourself with our fun and interactive child-friendly activities! These classes have been designed by our Tours & Activities Coordinator to give your kids a fun environment to burn off their energy and make new friends on the island.

  • Fish Feeding – Free for Resort guests
    On the jetty daily at 11:30am.
  • Kids Arts & Craft – Free for Resort guests
    Structured art & craft sessions with mess and fun for kids aged 5-11 years. 50 minute duration.
  • Junior Activities – $30 per child
    This fun 2-hour program includes beach activities, arts & craft, fish feeding! For ages 5-11 years.
  • Junior Marine Biologist Program – $45 per child
    Spend the morning with the resident marine biologist to learn more about our oceans through a series of fun activities. 3 hour duration. Find out more here.
  • Movie screenings – Free for Resort guests
    Held at Foxy’s.

Bush Tucker & Nature Walks 

Join our knowledgeable staff on a 30-45-minute tour of the resort grounds looking into the private life of plants.

  • Learn about the flora & fauna of Fitzroy Island

  • History of the island

Water Activities & Guided Tours

One of the best ways to explore Fitzroy Island is on the water! Why not go snorkelling and uncover the beauty of the underwater world, or stay dry and admire the coral reefs from above with a Glass Bottom Boat tour? Whatever you choose, the beauty of Welcome Bay is undeniable.

DIY Workshops

Come and learn a new skill with our D.I.Y workshops on Fitzroy Island! Workshops include your creation to take home. Suitable for ages 7+.

  • Tie Dye – $15 per person
    Fun for both kids and adults! Learn how to make colourful tie-dye tote bags and take your creation home with you. 30 minute duration.
  • DIY Spa – $15 per person
    Learn how to make your own spa products in a zero waste/sustainable way using ingredients you already have at home. All ingredients used are organic or locally sourced, with an emphasis on sustainability. Spa product might be a body scrub or face mask etc which you get to take home. 30 minute duration.
  • Jewellery Making – $20 per person
    Make your own earrings and bracelets using beautiful beads and wire/string, a lovely keep-sake from your Fitzroy Island holiday or gift for loved ones. 1 hour duration.

Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an Adult for all DIY workshops.

Adults ‘Sip & Create’ Classes

All classes are for adults 18+.

  • Sip & Paint | $30 per person
    Unleash your inner Artist with our ‘Sip & Paint’ session in a relaxed, social atmosphere with a glass of wine included. Join the group as you are taken step by step through the featured artwork of the evening. 1 1/4 hours duration.
  • Sip & Clay | $30 per person
    Get creative in this hands-on clay class where you will use clay to create something special like a bowl, sea creature or whatever you desire! Includes a glass of wine. 1 hour duration.

Savour the moment at Foxy’s Beachfront Bar, where you can indulge in freshly brewed coffee, delicious meals, or unwind with a sundowner drink while soaking in the breathtaking tropical sunset.

Visit the Turtle Rehab Centre

Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on Fitzroy Island (CTRC) is a volunteer operated, non-profit organisation dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles.

Visit the centre and learn more about these beautiful creatures and what we do to help them recover.

Talks run Tuesday-Sunday at 1.00pm & 1:45pm, tours are 30 minutes in duration, with a maximum of 15 guests and are accompanied by a tour guide.

  • Cost: $20 per Adult | $12 per Child
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • When: Tuesday-Sunday at 1:00pm & 1:45pm
  • Bookings: We strongly recommend booking in advance for the talk. Resort guests can book in advance via the link below.
  • Where: Meet at the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre 5 minutes before start time with your booking confirmation.

Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an Adult for Turtle Rehabilitation Talks.

Walking Trails

Discover the rich history of Fitzroy Island with a self-guided hike to the Summit & Lighthouse.

In addition to enjoying the changes in the scenery (from the lush rainforest to open woodlands) and the stunning views overlooking Welcome Bay, hikers are able to use the self-guided booklet to enhance their awareness of their surroundings.

The booklet allows people to identify tell-tale signs of the World War II military occupation as well as locate various objects left behind by the Lightkeepers and their families.
