At Fitzroy Island, you can relax and escape, you can dive right into adventure or you can do a little of both! Whether you’re coming for the day or staying overnight, we’ve got a range of activities for guests of all ages.
Fitzroy Island Sports Hub (FISH)
Explore the beauty of Fitzroy Island with a range of water based activities including snorkeling, kayaking, stand up paddle board, guided tours and special programs for Kids.
Please note, it is advised to also bring cash to the island if you’re going to hire any of the “What’SUP” equipment including stand up paddle board, kayaks etc.
We are no longer offering scuba diving.
Kids Activities
Fitzroy Island offers a range activities to keep the little ones busy including kids club activities for resort guests, a soft play area, a Junior Marine Biologist program and plenty of fun family-friendly activities to keep everyone happy!
Marine Conservation Program
Take part in our Marine Conservation Program on Fitzroy Island and assist our team and two non for profit organisations while contributing to the preservation, protection and rehabilitation of fragile marine ecosystems and threatened marine species of the Great Barrier Reef.
Glass Bottom Boat Tours
Departing twice times daily, glass bottom boat tours allow you to get up close and personal with the Great Barrier Reef! The sheltered waters around Fitzroy Island are abound with soft coral and marine life including wild sea turtles.
Visit the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre
The Fitzroy Island location of Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre opens its doors for talks (Tuesday-Sunday) allowing people to learn about the history of the centre and the journey to recovery which injured or sick turtles undergo whilst at this centre, prior to their release back into the ocean.
Activity Schedule for Resort Guests
Enjoy our complimentary resort guest activity program with fish feeding from the jetty or join one of our Guides for bush walks, marine talks or daily kids’ activities. We also offer a variety of DIY workshops and ‘Sip & Craft’ activities!
Educational & Student Tours
Fitzroy Island welcomes school and educational groups, come for the day or camp overnight. Explore the living reef off the island, the National Park and Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.
Campground
The Council Campground is located next to the beach; only 5 minutes stroll from the Jetty and is managed by the Fitzroy Island Resort. It has approximately 20 tent sites, a shower block, beachfront BBQ and pergola cover for eating areas.

“This is a great spot for a few days relaxing and snorkeling. The reef at the front of the resort is lovely, with turtles, hard ( many coloured) and soft corals as well as hundreds of fish. Rooms are comfortable and many have kitchens so you can bring food with you from the mainland. There is no sand on the main beach so bring your reef walkers!”

“To be honest we were nearly not going to come here due to the reviews, but we are so glad we went with our gut and decided to come. We have stayed at Fitzroy island for our honeymoon and it has been an amazing experience. We stayed in one of the beach cabins – it was absolutely perfect. Clean, modern, new and with the most amazing view. We have ate at both Foxys and Zephyrs and all food was amazing, SO fast to come out and all the staff were absolutely amazing. You can tell they are busy and working hard, but they always gave us the time of day and always with a smile on. We are really sad to leave (today is our last day). The beaches and views are AMAZING and like no experience we’ve ever had in Aus (and we’ve stayed at a lot of places). We cannot wait to bring our little one back. Thanks to all the beautiful staff that made our stay one of our most memorable travel experiences to date. If you read the below reviews – make your own decision. If you’re rude and expect a lot – might not be the place. But if you’re happy to experience a beautiful place and appreciate hard working staff – make sure you visit. We will be back. “Nice place to go and relax. If you want to snorkel and relax with ideally scenery then come here. Has everything you need to unwind.
You can book at day trip to Moore reef or a fishing charter which are excellent. Nice walks into the rainforest.”

“A short and sweet little tour, you get to view one tank to see a turtle which is undergoing rehabilitation and the guide gives a talk about turtles and the work they do which I found very interesting. Worth a visit to donate to their cause as the work they do is incredible and you’ll get to see a turtle!”
