This idyllic tropical island is within easy reach of Cairns in North Queensland, whether you are looking to catch a ride over on the Fitzroy Flyer or take your own boat. A 45-minute Fitzroy Flyer ride will get you from Cairns to Fitzroy Island and back daily, perfect for a Day Trip to visit the Great Barrier Reef or a longer holiday at the Resort.

Restrictions: Anyone traveling to Fitzroy Island under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult
Low Season: The 11am and 12:15pm services do not run Monday to Thursday during February & March
Scheduled Maintenance: September 10th to September 30th, 2025 - November 5th to November 7th, 2025

Boarding Instructions

From Cairns

Please make your way directly to the Fitzroy Flyer to check-in. Guests will be required to state their booking name to the boat crew prior to boarding the ferry. The Fitzroy Flyer is located at Berth 20 on the Marlin Marina Wharf. A map is linked below to help you find the location of the ferry. Please arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to departure from Cairns. Please note that Vessels in use may change, please check for any updates carefully.

Take Your Own Boat

Visiting the Island in your own yacht or boat gives you even more freedom to take things at your own pace, with the 15 nautical mile trip from Cairns offering a safe passage along scenic coastline. At Fitzroy Island you’ll find secure moorings and anchorage in naturally sheltered waters for private vessels.

Cairns Mainland Parking Facilities

The Reef Fleet Terminal/Cairns Marlin Wharf is located at 1 Spence Street, Cairns 4870, which is just next to the Shangri-La Hotel at the Pier Marketplace.

If you are staying overnight at the Resort and have a vehicle that requires overnight secure parking, we would recommend either parking undercover at the Pier or at the nearby Casino or Hilton, please see supplier directly for prices. If travelling to Fitzroy Island as a “day guest”, Council parking is available outside the Pier, or you can park undercover at the Casino or the Pier. There is also all-day parking for at the outdoor carparks near Trinity Wharf on Wharf Street, about two blocks away.
