The Fitzroy Island Sports Hub is PADI accredited and offers a variety of dive options including Discover Scuba and refresher courses, ocean dives and equipment hire for certified divers and a Bubblemakers kids program! Dive from a safe beach access point only 35m from the shop, our dive pool or take a short boat trip to surrounding dive sites.

Our impressive dive sites like Welcome Bay and the Eastern Wall offer sites and stories for all levels of divers. Whether you are a beginner, an avid photographer aiming for that perfect shot of a nudibranch or turtle, or even someone who is newly certified, the fringing reef around Fitzroy Island will offer you something magical.

DISCOVER Scuba Diving

If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you! This PADI certified program is a great introduction into what it takes to explore the underwater world.

The Details:

  • Age: Minimum 12 years
  • When: Daily
      • 9:30-11:45am
      • 12:30-2:45pm
  • Where: The dive pool and boat dive.
  • Duration: Please allow 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Requirements: Minimum age 12 years. A medical declaration must be provided – Click here for a full list of requirements.

Repeat Boat Dive:

  • Age: Minimum 12 years
  • When: Daily
    • 10:00-11.45am
    • 1:00-2.45pm
  • Where: our snorkel and dive boat
  • Duration: Please allow 1 ¾ hours
  • Requirements: To have completed the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience with the Fitzroy Island Sports Hub in the last 7 days.

LEARN to Dive – PADI Open Water Course

The 3 day PADI Open Water Diver is the first level of scuba certification. One of our highly-trained PADI Instructor will teach you how to scuba dive in a relaxed, supportive learning environment. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to dive at home, overseas or back here on Fitzroy Island! Find out more here.

The Details:

  • Age: Minimum 12 years
  • When: 2 scheduled 3-day courses per month
    • Weekday – starting on the 4th Tuesday of the month
    • Weekend – starting on the 2nd Saturday of the month
      • *July weekend course will be held from Friday 8th-Sunday 10th.*
    • eLearning only – starting on the 3rd Monday of the month
  • Where: FISH at Fitzroy Island Resort.
  • Duration: 3 days of diving + 1 day eLearning.

Certified Ocean Dives

Already certified? Lets go diving! After taking a short boat trip to one of dive sites you’ll enter the water with your guide and descend into the depths.  In small groups, your guide will help you explore the deeper portions of the fringing reef that surround Fitzroy Island.

Sites like Sharkfin bay, 3 trees or Double J offer canyons and bommies filled with coral for you to explore with your guide.

      • Arrive at 10am for 10:30am departure
      • Arrive at 1pm for 1:30pm departure

Equipment Hire for Certified Divers

Already certified? We offer equipment hire for experienced divers to explore the waters of Fitzroy Island! Entry is beach-access only (dive boat coming soon!).

Divers must hold a current dive certification (open water or above) and have recent and regular dive history (minimum of 20 logged dives). Click here for a full list of requirements.

Bubblemaker Program

Bubblemaker is as fun as it sounds! A chance for kids to use scuba gear to breathe underwater in our dive pool, learn new skills, blow bubbles, play games and explore shallow waters under the direct supervision of a PADI professional.

Have the option to take home a fun PADI activity pack including Bubblemaker beach towel, logbook, toy, certificate and registration card, decals, tattoo and emblem.

Loved your Bubblemaker experience? Go again for a discounted fee with our ‘Bubblemaker Repeat’.

PADI Rescue Diver Course

Our PADI Rescue Diver course conducted through the Fitzroy Island Sports Hub is a 2-day course that takes you through a step-by-step process on what do to prevent and aid in diving emergencies. You will develop your knowledge and skills to better manage diving incidents that may occur on dives starting with self-rescue techniques and expanding through to decompression and pressure related injuries.

  • Duration: 2 days of diving + pre-study.

Certified Night Dives

Coming Soon

Plunging into the darkness!! Join the team from the Fitzroy Island Sports Hub for a night diving experience for certified divers.

Entering the water after sunset you can discover what our reef offers after dark. Diving in the early hours of the evening you can see the changing of the guard where parrotfish start enveloping themselves with their mucus bubble or the nocturnal fish start to become active. You might just experience the bioluminescence or the epaulette sharks that frequent our reef in Welcome Bay.
